Dr. Trent Nessler finds healing using the NXPro
Name:
Dr. Trent Nessler
Background:
Dr. Trent Nessler has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, with a focus in biomechanics and motor learning. Trent lectures around the world on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation, injury prevention, and return to sport. He also works with combat and mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes, while training competitively as a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
History:
Trent suffered a meniscus tear, medial collateral ligament (MCL) tear, posterior-lateral corner, and an osteochondral defect during Jiu Jitsu which required surgery. This should have required him to be non-weight bearing for 8 weeks.
Complaints:
Knee pain, quadricep atrophy with injury, disuse, non-weight bearing, and limited knee range of motion (ROM).
Methods:
While using RockCuff blood flow restriction (BFR) cuffs, combined with INS delivered by the NeuX NXPro, with electrodes placed on the affected quadricep, Trent performed:
- Quadricep sets at 250Hz, 180Hz, and 110Hz
- Straight leg raises (SLR’s) at 180Hz and 110Hz
- Short arc quad (SAQ’s) at 180Hz, 110Hz, and 250Hz
Results
Objective Findings:
- Increased quadricep activation
- Increased quadricep circumference
- Increased knee range of motion (ROM)
Trent Experienced the Following:
- Increased neuromuscular quadriceps firing
- Increased strength
- Accelerated rehabilitation time
- Decreased pain
- Enhanced retraining of movement patterns associated with knee rehabilitation
- increased neuromuscular control
- Expedited return to sport
Subjective Comments:
At 3 weeks post-op, Trent was told by his surgeon that he was 4 weeks ahead of schedule. He was feeling great. Dr. Trent returned to MMS and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu without restriction at 4 1/2 months post-operation.
