NeuX supports competitors at the Vans US Open of Surfing

Congratulations to the 2022 Competitors

The Vans US Open of Surfing, hosted in Huntington Beach, is the world's largest action sports festival. The event lasts almost two weeks and features the best in surfing, skateboarding, and BMX competitions, including Olympians and world champions. NeuX Technologies was on-site  with multiple team members working as part of the Sports Medicine Team for the contest.

Dr. Tim Brown, Co-Medical Director for the WSL (World Surf League) and NeuX Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) has been the on-site Medical Director for the US Open for over 15 years. Dr. Brown annually assembles a team of some of the best Sport Medicine Professionals, including Sports Physiotherapists, Acupuncturists, Performance Trainers, Sports Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Orthopods, Athletic Trainers, members of the Red Bull High-Performance Team, and the Foundation Training Team, all working in collaboration for the good of the athletes.

Dr. Brown has created a unique environment for the Sports Medicine Team and the athletes where everyone gets a chance to collaborate and learn from each other’s unique perspectives and experiences, for the ultimate benefit of the athlete. He’s been doing this since the 80’s when he was the original Medical Director for the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.

“You know there’s something special going on when the best athletes from all over the world, who have access to anything they want, stand in line outside the treatment area to spend time with the Sports Medicine Team.” said Dr. John Pecora, a Sport Chiropractor and Vice President of Business Development for NeuX.

To have the NXPro and Interactive Neuromuscular Stimulation (INS) available for the athletes was a huge benefit. The technology is always a hit, and it is consistently requested. Whether to recover after a long training session, from an injury, or to prepare for an upcoming heat, INS is a big part of the US Open success.

In the end, Bettylou Sakura Johnson (HAW), Ezekiel Lau (HAW), Kelis Kaleopa’a (HAW), and Taylor Jensen (USA) were crowned victors at the Vans US Open of Surfing, Stop No. 4 of the World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series, and Vans Duct Tape Invitational, respectively.

Sakura Johnson and Lau took critical wins at the halfway mark of the Challenger Series season in their mission to rejoin the Championship Tour, while the second of three stops for WSL Longboard Tour tighten the World Title race with Kaleopa’a and Jensen emerging victorious.
